What are Electrons?

• Negatively charged subatomic particles.
• One of three main components of atoms.
• Weigh approx. 1/1836 the mass of protons.
  • Weigh approx. 0.000545amu (Atomic Mass Units)

Where are they found?

• They encircle the atom's central nucleus.
  • The electrons are kept in orbit by their attraction to the protons inside the nucleus.
• Within various layers surrounding the atom, referred to as shells.
